Made in the Image of God (*Blog 12)

God is Spirit

“God is Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

God created man in three parts – spirit, soul and body.
Man and woman have a special consciousness of God.

Man has a spirit. Man and woman have the capacity to directly communicate with God. To talk and to listen to God and be in fellowship with Him. To pray, praise and worship God.

God gave man a soul giving each of us our own personality. We define the soul as our mind, our self-will and our emotions.

God skillfully designed a physical body for our spirit and soul to reside in and gave us many abilities.

God designed the soul and physical body:
-with a brain giving us intellectual abilities far superior to animals
-a tongue capable of speech
-to be capable of hearing & of understanding God’s communication with us
-with emotions capable of responding to God in love and devotion
-with a will enabling us to choose to love God – to choose to obey God
-to be capable of facial expression showing emotional feelings

God gave us many gifts, examples:
Ability to appreciate beauty – to compose music – to paint pictures – to write – to count to large numbers and do mathematics – to design things, then make them – to organize – to reason – to make decisions – to be self–conscious – to laugh at ourselves – to think abstractly – to control and use energy . . . . .
The variety of intellectual gifts God has given mankind is unlimited.

These capabilities help define what it means to be made in the image of God, after His likeness.

God created man without sin, as pure and holy, and gave to man many capabilities far superior to all other creatures.

At the time of creation, the spirit of man was created in the very image of God and the soul and body were able to reflect this image perfectly.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were in direct communion with God. Adam and Eve talked directly with God and literally walked in the presence of God.

Adam and Eve experienced (knew) firsthand God’s love and His goodness. They were fully holy and pure. Complete harmony between man’s spirit, soul and body existed.
