32 Sometimes God Commands or Alters the Path of Storms – Post 32 2025
When my granddaughter was about five years old, she was riding with me, and it was raining. She did not like storms. She asked, “Grandma, does God make storms?” There was a pause as I thought about her question. Finally, I responded by saying if there had been no sin there would be no storms. It is man’s sin against God that made storms.
In this writing are a few examples of how God at times does command or alter the path of a storm.
Prayer Splits Storm’s Path
When my granddaughter was either 8 or 9 years old, I believe it was in August of 2006, she had been attending an awesome Bible camp near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. I traveled to the camp about 200 miles away to pick her up along with providing a ride home for a couple of other girls. The talk on our drive home was about the threatening storm that had in its direct path the Bible camp. I know many parents (and grandparents) had prayed for the safety of the children. But, I also heard tell by campers of how camp staff together prayed concerning the approaching storm. The result was as the dangerous storm approached the camp; it literally split into two paths and went around the camp coming back together after it had passed by the camp. The campers only experienced a little rain and wind.
Holy Spirit Brings Message to Pray to Turn Hurricane Out To Sea
As best as I can remember, it was in 2007 when I heard Pat Robertson relate the story of Hurricane Isabel and the Virginia Beach location of CBN and its headquarters. In 2003, as Hurricane Isabel was advancing up the eastern seacoast, the Holy Spirit spoke to Robertson telling him to pray for the storm to turn out to sea. CBN and its headquarters were in the path of the storm.
Robertson called his prayer team. He said before the hurricane hit near CBN and its headquarters, the hurricane turned out to sea. Some damage was reported to the city of Virginia Beach, but the area avoided the brunt of the storm’s winds and CBN, its headquarters and campus were not damaged.
Quotes: Praying “in the name of Jesus,” Robertson said he believes God will put up “a wall of protection.” He and those praying with him “command this storm to go out into the sea and to pass land harmlessly.”
God’s Hand in The Perfect Storm
Relating to relinquishing some of Israel’s Covenant Land: On October 30, 1991, the then President George H. W. Bush opened the Madrid Conference in Spain to consider “land for peace” and discuss Israel’s Middle East role in this peace-making effort. As the conference was opened what has been called “the perfect storm” developed in the North Atlantic producing the largest waves ever recorded in that region. The storm traveled 1,000 miles from “east to west” instead of the normal pattern of “west to east” and crashed into the New England coast. Thirty-five-foot waves crashed into the Kennebunkport home of former President George H. W. Bush.
Jesus Stilled the Storm. God did not create storms, man’s sin did.
I do not believe that God made the storm just so Jesus could still the storm:
Mark 4: 37-41 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And He (Jesus) was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And, He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?
Food for thought!
