25} God Shed First Blood Ever Shed to Cover Adam’s and Eve’s Sin – Lesson 25 2025
While studying the Book of Genesis in 2005, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes and enabled me to begin to receive a glimpse of the enormity of what God did for us and is telling us through this simple but “mind renewing” verse:
“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins and clothed them.” Genesis 3: 21 KJV
The first death in God’s Creation took place when God made coats of skins to clothe Adam and Eve. God killed animals, most likely lambs, to provide clothing to cover Adam’s and Eve’s exposed nakedness.
Our perfect, holy God, willingly shed the very first drop of blood ever shed for the sake of mankind. The shedding of blood, the first death, came as a result of man using his free will to choose to sin, to not trust God’s goodness, to rebel against Him.
Our awesome God responded to Adam’s and Eve’s act of distrust and disobedience by making the very first blood sacrifice on behalf of mankind.
Before Adam and Eve sinned they were innocent, pure and not ashamed.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2: 25 (KJV)
After Adam and Eve sinned they lost their innocence and purity. They inadequately tried to cover their act of sinfulness (nakedness) by sewing together fig leaves to wear as covering.
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.” Genesis 3: 6-7
After Adam and Eve sinned they became afraid and were ashamed.
“And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Genesis 3: 8-10
God demonstrated His love to Adam and Eve and to all mankind. Adam and Eve could not provide adequate covering for their nakedness. Only God could cover their nakedness (and our sins).
Can we even begin to comprehend what this actually means?
God willingly shed blood, the first blood, for His creation.
I believe it is accurate to conclude that the sacrifice God made in the Garden of Eden initiated the practice of making offerings and blood sacrifices to God. God required offerings and sacrifices to be made as a form of obedience to Him and of atonement for man’s sinful rebellion.
And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. Genesis 4:3-4
Throughout the Old Testament we find offerings and blood sacrifices being made by God’s chosen people, Israel.
This practice pointed to the coming of the Messiah, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who became the permanent, final, perfect, unblemished blood sacrifice. Jesus paid full price for Mans’ sin and overcame the curse that sin brought upon mankind.
Jesus Christ, the unblemished sacrificial lamb, bore the shame of our nakedness on the cross! He provided the needed covering for sin once and for all. He gave His everything to provide for you and for me the gift of eternal life.
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Death Came When God Killed Animals Sacrificed for Man
One purpose of this writing is to draw your attention to truth; death had not been experienced in God’s creation until God, Himself, for the sake of mankind, killed animals to provide covering for the nakedness (sinful rebellious act) of Adam and Eve.
“Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12
There was no death, suffering or disease before man sinned. The disobedience of man brought these consequences into the world. What Adam and Eve did effected the rest of God’s creation, including the animal kingdom, the earth and the entire universe. When man sinned, the gradual decay and decline of everything in the universe began.
This is contrary to what the world teaches through macroevolution and billions of years. It is important to understand that macroevolution involves the need for mutation, which includes pain, suffering and death in order for it to be accomplished.
Is God’s Word the truth or is God a liar? If truth, the lie of macroevolution and billions of years must quit being endorsed. Can you see how such beliefs greatly undermine what the Book of Genesis has to teach us? Give back to our God of love and mercy, give Him the glory and thanksgiving He so rightly deserves!
Life Came with Blood Sacrifice of Jesus Christ
God provided the first blood sacrifice in the Garden of Eden and in due time He provided the permanent and final blood sacrifice for the sake of mankind in the form of His own Son, Jesus Christ, sacrificed at the cross.
Why did God do this? So that everyone who willingly receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior into their heart will not pay the eternal consequence for sin but instead live forever in the loving presence of our holy God.
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” I Corinthians 15: 21,22
