16) Spirit, Soul and Body – 2024

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new Creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

This week, I have decided to share this important understanding and reminder that God created us as three-part beings. Each of us is a spirit, with a soul, housed in a body. The following description comes from a post by New Creations:

**God made you as a three-part being with a spirit, a soul, and a body.

The body is the easiest part to understand. It’s the flesh, blood, and bone that can be seen.

Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions that make up who you are as a person. The soul cannot be seen with our eyes, but it can be observed just the same.

What many do not realize is that you also have a spirit which is as distinct from your soul as your body is different from your soul. It is this spirit within us that comes alive when we are born again the moment we turn to Jesus.

The human spirit is unique in all creation. It’s what sets us apart from the rest of the animal world. When you are born again, your spirit within you is made perfect.

The rest of your walk as a Christian after that moment is a process of bringing your soul into alignment with your new spirit. As you renew your mind to the truth of God’s word, it transforms your soul into agreement with your spirit.

Understanding the difference between soul and spirit unlocks the New Testament scriptures so that many passages become easier to understand.**

I wish to offer this perspective. Until you are born again in Jesus Christ, you are spiritually dead. We all inherited a sin nature from Adam. This caused each and every one of us to be separated from God. At the time you repent of your sin toward God and are saved, the Holy Spirit comes to live within you. The death of Jesus on the cross made salvation possible. You can now choose to be saved. It is at this moment that you become reconnected to God. A direct channel has been opened between you and God through the Holy Spirit. You are now reconciled to God.

I think of it this way because of what I have experienced. Before, I gave my life to God, I would daydream. When I became born again and indwelled by the Holy Spirit, the daydreaming turned to hearing God speak within me. Actually, at times, hearing the “still small voice” of God speak. Receiving revelations from God. God’s Word came to life for me. As I yield to the Holy Spirit, He guides and teaches me. He is very much my comforter. I am now spiritually alive. The Holy Spirit continues His work to change me to become more and more like Jesus Christ. It is hard to describe but evident in my life.

I very much like the fact that the Holy Spirit always turns my attention toward Jesus no matter the situation and what I am going through. He keeps pointing me to the answer to everything that I need, Jesus.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)
